It is distinguished by a headland featuring a twin-peaked promontory: the first peak holds a circular castle, while the second bears a medieval fortification.
Construction of the castle spanned a long period, ranging from the 10th century to the end of the 14th century AD. While its exact builder is unknown, the original structure likely dates back to the Arab period.
Access is currently provided via an external staircase running alongside the surrounding walls; the complex consists of the main building and two towers—one for observation and another that likely served as a prison.
Although recognized as a “national monument,” the site remains privately owned, yet it is subject to preservation orders issued by the Superintendency for Cultural Heritage of Messina.
